What is CNC Manufacturing? A Comprehensive Guide to CNC Machining

In a world that relies on advanced technology, it is no surprise that computerized numerical control machining, or CNC machining, is more prevalent than ever. But what exactly is CNC manufacturing? This method of manufacturing uses computer programs to control machine tools that create close-tolerance high-quality parts. The method of manufacturing  frees up manpower for additional tasks while allowing for precise results on a repeatable basis.

What Is CNC Machining

The CNC process involves using computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) programs written in proprietary code called G-Code and M-Code. These programs control features like raw material feed rate, piece positioning, and cutting speed. A set of programs are written and uploaded into the machine's computer memory. This controls the machine's movements on a scale that is accurate down to +/-0.005" tolerances.

There are a few companies that build quality CNC machines, such as Haas Manufacturing. Haas machines are extremely dependable and are used by Lincoln Tech to train new CNC Machinists. Since HAAS machines are used prolifically within the manufacturing industry, this experience often translates directly to the work environment for the new graduate.
