When it comes to getting a quality education, you need to keep things fun. It is certainly important to learn the foundations and hard skills, but unless you keep things interesting it is easy to burn out. Bringing some friendly competition into the mix is a surefire way to keep things fresh, especially if it includes an extra dose of creativity. The Welding program students of the added an element of both with a Steel Picasso Welding competition on Monday, March 2nd.

Welding students used scrap metal and their wealth of skills to create imaginative pieces of all shapes and from all inspirations. Students were instructed to use only scrap metal and create projects no larger than 3 feet.  Teams of one or two students qualified to compete by maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher, attendance of 80 percent or better, and completion of all-class assignments prior to participation.

The entire school was able to get in on the excitement, as they were invited to check out the project and cast their votes for their favorites. Along with Lincoln staff, the students’ votes were tallied to determine which creation was the favorite.

The winners of the Steel Picasso Student Competition were announced at Lincoln's Stars and Bars Ceremony. Prizes were donated by Victor, ESAB, and Pro Welding Gear to keep the students' skills on point.  Here are your winners:
